Jailer 2 crossing ₹500 Cr has done more than set a Kollywood record. With it, Rajinikanth has drawn levels with Prabhas for the most ₹500 Cr+ worldwide grossers as a lead hero among South Indian stars.

Both superstars now have four films each in the ₹500 Cr club.

Prabhas: 4 Films

  • Baahubali: The Beginning
  • Baahubali 2: The Conclusion
  • Salaar: Part 1 Ceasefire
  • Kalki 2898 AD

Rajinikanth: 4 Films

Prabhas and Rajini: Two Diffeeent Journeys

Prabhas built his record in about a decade. Baahubali made him a pan-India star, Baahubali 2 became one of the biggest Indian films ever, and Salaar and Kalki 2898 AD proved his pull beyond that franchise.

Rajinikanth’s path is even more striking. 2.0 came in 2018, and the last three films on his list have all arrived in just over three years. Jailer, Coolie and Jailer 2 have come back to back, and that too at a stage of his career when most stars slow down.

Who Gets to 5 First?

The race for the fifth ₹500 Cr film is now on.

Prabhas has a strong lineup with Spirit, Fauzi and Kalki 2. Any one of them could take him to five.

Rajinikanth is lining up his next projects too. With Jailer 2 performing the way it is, few would bet against him getting there first.

One thing is certain. Two of the biggest box office names in South Indian cinema are now level, and fans of both stars will be watching closely to see who breaks the tie.
